THE SPADE AWARDS
The Spade Awards (The Spades) are presented annually to individuals or organisations that put their own commercial or political interests above the safety and happiness of humankind or who, through their influence or actions, endanger planet earth.
The Spades trophy is a three-quarter sized real garden spade made from polished stainless steel and with a solid Ash handle. It’s a thing of beauty and utility and there is a fundamental honesty to its design and purpose. The same, sadly, cannot be said for most of those who are nominated.
Winners of a Spade are called Losers for obvious reasons and their names and failings are engraved on the blade of their trophy in the plainest of plain English.
Spades are not awarded as a punishment, nor are they intended to offend. We hope the Spade Awards will remind the losers, and policy makers in general, that when you have dug your fellow humans and yourself into a deep hole it is time to stop digging.
The Spade Awards are announced each year on The Ides of March ~ 15th March ~ a date when, by tradition, those who carelessly and uncaringly wield their power can expect their comeuppance. The Spade Awards ceremony and party “more self-righteous fun than you can shake a fist at” takes place in late March and is notable for the vanishingly small number of nominees who actually turn up to collect their awards.
Nominations for The Spades are made throughout the year. Members of The Bad Report Support Group (BRSG) have the exclusive right to nominate people or organisation and also to vote for the Losers in the annual awards. Those who are nominated are informed and offered an opportunity to appeal their nomination.
Once a nomination is confiremed the nominees together with details of their offences are placed “on remand” in The Rogue’s Lounge for all to see while they await a verdict the following March. Should a nomination be removed for whatever reason before the Members have an opportunity to vote, the removal will be announced on The Bad Report Podcast.
Members of The Bad Report Support Group (BRSG) have the exclusive right to nominate and vote in the annual Spades Awards and the exclusive right to attend the Awards Ceremony and Party with a guest of their choice.
